We profiled 3,000 terrorism cases and filed 1500 charges in 8 years – AGF Abubakar Malami says

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, says the Federal government has profiled a total of 3,000 terrorism cases and out of which 1500 charges were filed and 397 convictions secured in the last eight years of the Buhari-led administration.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami made this known on Thursday during a ministerial scorecard of the Justice Sector from 2015 till date.

”“A total of 3,000 terrorism cases have been profiled to date out of which over 1500 cases were prosecuted, with 397 convictions realised.”

Speaking further, Malami said a total of 7000 cases involving various offenses including Maritime, Armed Robbery, Vandalization of Electrical Equipment and Pipelines, Financial matters, Cyber Crime, Kidnapping and Anti-corruption, were successfully prosecuted.

He said the Ministry has concluded arrangements and would coordinate the next phase of terrorism-related trials in collaboration with the Federal High Court, the Legal Aid Council, and the Defence Headquarters.

“In this regard, the Ministry is currently remodeling structures at the Wawa Cantonment, Kainji to accommodate eight (8) courtrooms, Judges’ Chambers, living accommodation, Lawyers’ dressing room and conveniences to make them conducive for Judges, Witnesses as well as Defendants”. he said
