The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has warned Nigerians against sharing or circulating other people’s nude photographs, stressing that offenders could face arrest and prosecution.
Disu’s warning highlights the need for Nigerians to respect other people’s privacy, particularly in an era when private images can quickly spread across social media platforms and messaging applications.
The police chief cautioned that anyone found distributing such intimate images could be held accountable under the law.
The warning also serves as a reminder that forwarding or reposting private photographs without the consent of the person involved can have serious consequences, even when the individual sharing the content did not originally create or upload it.
Nigerians have increasingly relied on social media to share information and entertainment, but authorities continue to raise concerns about the misuse of digital platforms to violate people’s privacy and dignity.
The warning reinforces the importance of responsible online behaviour and respecting the privacy of others.
