Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has highlighted the past support Atiku received from President Bola Tinubu and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi as he made a fresh case for his 2027 presidential bid.
Okonkwo made the argument while discussing the opposition’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that both Tinubu and Obi had at different times endorsed Atiku for president.
According to him, Tinubu backed Atiku’s presidential bid in 2007, while Obi endorsed him during the 2019 presidential election.
He said, “Tinubu and Peter Obi Endorsed Atiku to be President 2007 and 2019 respectively, What Are they Looking For again? You Already Endorsed Atiku, he’s the only man to be endorsed by both candidates.”
Okonkwo has been advocating for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 election and has maintained that Atiku remains the strongest option for challenging President Tinubu.
His latest comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians arguing that Obi and Atiku should work together, while others questioned Atiku’s political record and accused Okonkwo of campaigning rather than addressing the concerns of voters.
