Wolves are set to finalize a deal with Middlesbrough for the appointment of Rob Edwards before their next Premier League match after the international break.

The Athletic confirmed on its website on Sunday, November 9, 2025, that there is a club-to-club agreement regarding a compensation fee of approximately £2 million. Reports indicate that Edwards, 42, had an existing contract with Middlesbrough that was scheduled to run through 2028. Discussions are currently ongoing regarding the composition of Edwards’ new coaching staff.

This appointment marks Edwards’ return to Wolves, where he spent four years as a player and served as interim coach in 2016. The contract is expected to be a long-term one, aimed not only at helping the team avoid relegation from the Premier League this season but also at a future attempt to regain promotion, should they be relegated.

It has also been reported that the former Watford and Luton Town coach will arrive at Wolves tomorrow to sign his contract, following an agreement facilitated by Matt Wild.

The decision to hire a new manager comes after the sacking of Pereira, who was dismissed just 45 days into a new three-year contract following last week’s defeat to Fulham. The club currently sits eight points from safety and four points behind second-from-bottom Nottingham Forest, who have played one game fewer.

Wolves are currently at the bottom of the Premier League, with only two points from their opening 11 matches.
