Former Wales international, Gareth Bale has revealed why he joined Real Madrid over Manchester United in the past.

Speaking on The Overlap’s Stick To Football podcast, Bale said he had an agreement with former Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy not to join a Premier League rival.

According to Bale, Man United offered more money to Tottenham for his signature, but he already had his heart set on Real Madrid.

I did talk to United. They actually bid more than Real Madrid. I spoke with David Moyes. But my heart was set on Madrid anyway,” Bale said.

“I had something in place with Daniel Levy, more of a gentleman’s agreement, and obviously, he didn’t want to sell me to a rival and strengthen another team. Levy made it hard, but he stayed true to his words in the end.”

Bale, who was linked with Man United, joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013.
