The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reinstated Michael Ango as the Acting Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service.

The minister also reinstated the Mandate Secretary for Education, Danlami Hayyo. The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

“The Minister, who warned that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated among officials of the FCTA, directed Dr Danlami Hayyo and Michael Ango to resume duty with immediate effect,” the statement said.

Ango had been removed from office on December 5, when Wike relieved him of his duties as acting chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service. No official reason was given at the time for his removal, while the most senior official of the agency was directed to assume leadership in the interim.

Ango was appointed in an acting capacity by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024. At the time, the president described him as a seasoned professional with experience in revenue administration, financial management and organisational leadership.

Last month, staff of the FCT Internal Revenue Service organised an event titled A Night with Ango, where he was praised for what they described as visionary leadership, commitment to staff development and efforts to reposition the agency as a model revenue institution.

Wike also reinstated Danlami Hayyo, who had been suspended on November 26 following the circulation of a memo directing government schools in Abuja to close on November 28.

The memo, signed by the Director of School Services, Aishatu Sani Alhassan, instructed all public senior secondary schools in the FCT to shut down due to unspecified security concerns and directed principals to dismiss students in an orderly manner.

The FCT administration later denied issuing such a directive. At the time, Wike’s spokesman said the administration “debunked the report that all government schools in the Federal Capital Territory were mandated to close by November 28, 2025,” adding that “no such decision was taken at any level of the administration.”

The minister also instructed the acting Head of Service, Nancy Nathan, to commence disciplinary action against Alhassan in line with civil service rules.

In recent months, Wike has carried out several reshuffles across agencies under the FCT administration as part of reforms aimed at improving service delivery and boosting revenue performance.
