Here is the latest update on if Robert Sanchez will play for Chelsea in their upcoming fixture against Brighton in the Premier League.
Robert Sánchez will be back in contention for Chelsea when they welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday.
The goalkeeper was dismissed just minutes into the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend after clattering into Bryan Mbeumo outside his box, denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. His red card forced Enzo Maresca to replace Estevão Willian with backup stopper Filip Jorgensen.
Sánchez has already served his suspension and is now free to return between the posts.
Why Sánchez’s ban was only one game
Referee Peter Bankes issued the Spaniard a straight red at Old Trafford for preventing a goalscoring chance, which carries a standard one-match suspension.
Although the dismissal occurred in a Premier League match, the punishment extended to domestic competitions, ruling Sánchez out of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup third-round tie against Lincoln City in midweek.
Had the incident been deemed violent conduct, the 27-year-old would have faced a three-game absence. Instead, Jorgensen started the cup clash, with Gabriel Slonina named on the bench.
With Sánchez eligible again, Chelsea will have their first-choice goalkeeper available against his former side.
Chelsea’s recent form
The Blues snapped a three-match winless streak with their 2-1 victory over Lincoln, despite falling behind in the first half. Second-half strikes from Tyrique George and Facundo Buonanotte sealed the turnaround.
Before that, Chelsea had drawn 2-2 with Brentford in the league, lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and then fallen to United.
At Stamford Bridge, however, Maresca’s team remain unbeaten this season, having drawn 0-0 with Crystal Palace and defeated Fulham 2-0. Brighton, on the other hand, have struggled away from home, suffering defeats at Everton and Bournemouth.
