Former Nigeria International, Lukman Haruna, has said the Super Eagles attacked each other physically and spiritually before and during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Lukman was speaking on the internal problems that the three-time African champions suffered during the tournament.

Lukman, who then played for French Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco, was part of coach Lars Lagerbäck’s side to the World Cup.

Nigeria crashed out of the tournament in the group stage with only one from three matches.

Speaking on The Abu Azeez Podcast, Haruna opened up on how the players were so disorganised, suggesting there was no way they would had a successful tournament.

He said that Super Eagles engaged both in physical and spiritual battle with themselves.

He said, “A lot happened — the team was not in good spirits. At that time, we actually fought each other.

“Spiritually, we were attacking one another, and physically, we were fighting.”

The former international recalled that before the team left its camp in London and boarded the flight to South Africa, there was a fight between some of the players who he refused to mention their names.

On why the team was only able to record just one draw in the tournament, he said, “Some players were selfish; they didn’t want to pass the ball. They just wanted to take the glory alone.”
