Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has placed his newly-inaugurated commissioners on a six-month probation period.

The Governor stated this during the maiden State Executive Council meeting (SEC) he presided over at the Government House on Wednesday.

Yusuf’s decision has attracted applause and criticism.

During the SEC meeting, the Governor announced that, after the probation, the commissioners will be assessed based on their individual performance.

Based on the assessments, those who perform well without blemish will be appreciated. But those who will underperform will be removed, Yusuf said.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Hisham Habib, said the Governor will head the monitoring and evaluation team to monitor the performances of the commissioners and their ministries.

Yusuf told the commissioners that their appointments were based on merit, professionalism, previous performances and competency, urging them to be committed to their duties.
