Nollywood actress Zainab Bakare has reacted to the backlash she received online following her emotional moment at the service of songs held in honour of her late colleague, Allwell Ademola.

Videos from the memorial ceremony, which took place on Thursday, went viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While some sympathised with the actress, others accused her of being overly dramatic and “acting for the camera.”

In response, Zainab took to Instagram to express her displeasure over the criticism, describing the comments as heartless and unfair, especially during a period of mourning for the film industry.

She wrote:

“Y’all coming for me and tagging me with your full chest that I was acting for the camera… I will hold till we bury her before I give you a taste of your medicine.”

According to the actress, the backlash was a distasteful attempt to exploit a painful situation. She accused online trolls of using the tragedy to spread negativity instead of showing empathy.

She added:

“Koni da fun yin!!! Y’all are using the death of a loved one to dish out your oriburuku. We shall see!!!”

Allwell Ademola was laid to rest on Friday, January 9, at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba. The burial was attended by family members, close friends, and colleagues from the Nollywood industry.

Zainab Bakare maintained silence toward her critics throughout the burial proceedings as she joined other stars to bid a final farewell to the late actress.
