36-Year Old Man Arraigned Over Breach Of Peace, Phone Theft

A 36-year-old man, Otobo Joseph, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly conducting himself in an unlawful manner to cause a breach of peace.

The defendant allegedly stole six iPhones valued at N1,496,000.00, owned by a technology company in the Oshodi area of the state.

Joseph, who was arraigned on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, before Magistrate S.O Obasa is facing two-count bordering on breach of peace and stealing.

The charge read,

“That you Otobo Joseph of No.17 Makinde Street, Oshodi Lagos State did on October 5th 2022 at Ikeja Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

“That you Otobo Joseph of the above address did on March 1st, 2023 in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal six iPhones valued at N1,496,000.00 property of Beyond Africa Technologies Company and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Kokoye Olusegun told the court that the defendant committed the offence in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 168(d) and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges read against him.

Magistrate S.O Obasa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two responsible sureties, in like sum, with three years tax, utility bill, full-size photo gainfully employed and one blood relation.

The case was adjourned till May 25, 2023, for mention.
