The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) reportedly condemned the recent killings in some parts of Benue State.
It was reported that Umogidi, Ikobi and Nyiev villages were attacked last week, with over 80 persons killed.
National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, while distancing the group from the massacre, described the attack as an act of criminality. He said the attack should be condemned by all.
Ngelzarma lamented that similar attacks were carried out at the Benue/Nasarawa border, where over 30 pastoralists were killed. He added that that just a week after that, the Benue State treasurer for MACBAN was trailed to his house by criminals and killed.
These attacks, Ngelzarma lamented, have not spared anybody, including herdsmen.
He added,
“I have not received any report from my Benue State representative telling me that they are our members, after all this thing is not new. You can bear me witness on an attack that happened some months back, where over 30 pastoralists were killed in the Benue/Nasarawa border and, a week after that, our Benue State Treasurer was trailed to his house and murdered.
“These are activities of criminals because even the herdsmen are not spared. So, if there are happenings of that nature, we just associate it with criminals, whether they are Tivs or Fulani, whoever they are, they are criminals, it is an act of criminality.”
