Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has said the team will be gunning for the title at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, NEWSUNPLUG reports.

Nigeria have reached the final of the competition twice, in 1989 and 2005, but lost to Portugal and Argentina respectively.

The Flying Eagles were eliminated in the quarter-finals by South Korea two years ago in Argentina.

Bameyi, however, is upbeat that they can win the title this time around.

“It still hurts to be eliminated by Korea in the quarterfinal in 2023 and now we want to do better,’ Bameyi said after the team’s first training in Santiago, Chile.
“The spirit in the team is high and we will use the friendlies (against Chile and Australia) to assess ourselves and also get to know what to expect. We want to make history.”

Aliyu Zubairu’s side are drawn in Group F with Norway, Colombia and Saudi Arabia.

The West Africans will face Norway in their opening fixture on Monday, September 29.
