A man has gone viral after reportedly denying his wife on stage just to share a moment with Nigerian singer Tems during the Afro Punk Festival in Brazil over the weekend.
In a trending video from the event, Tems could be heard telling the man that she didn’t want to disrespect his wife by serenading him. However, the man quickly denied being married, even though the woman believed to be his wife was standing right behind him.
“I know your wife is here, and I need to respect her,” Tems said.
Despite her concern, the man went on to kiss the singer’s hand after claiming he wasn’t married, prompting loud cheers and screams from the audience.
The scene has reignited debates about Afrobeats artists serenading fans’ partners during performances.
It will be recalled that in February 2024, singer Omah Lay stirred controversy when he invited a female fan who reportedly attended his concert at the Eventim Apollo in London with her boyfriend on stage while performing his hit song “Bend You.”
Videos showing the pair’s silhouettes sparked massive uproar online, and reports later claimed that the couple broke up following the incident.
