Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has said the outcome of the Osun State governorship election demonstrates that President Bola Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 general election.
The social commentator made the statement in a video shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, August 16, while reacting to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election on the Accord Party platform.
Fayose praised Osun voters for what he described as their determination to protect their choice at the polls, despite the strong campaign mounted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
According to him, the people of Osun emerged as the biggest winners of the election because they remained united and refused to be swayed by the political strength displayed by the APC.
He noted that the ruling party had deployed 16 state governors to campaign for its candidate, but the move ultimately failed to prevent Adeleke from securing another term.
Fayose also compared the conduct of Osun voters with that of voters in his home state, Ekiti, which he criticised over the alleged practice of selling votes.
He called on Nigerians in other states to take lessons from the Osun election, urging them to demonstrate similar resolve when the 2027 presidential election arrives.
Fayose maintained that if Nigerians could replicate the determination displayed by Osun voters on a national scale, it could have a significant impact on the outcome of the 2027 election.
“The Osun election has come and gone, and the people are the heroes of this election. With 16 APC governors in Osun, the party failed woefully. Shame caught them,” he said.
“I love Osun people. They are not like Ekiti people. Ekiti people are vote sellers. When you look at what happened in Osun, you will see that the power of the people is greater than the power of the APC. If Osun people can defeat 16 governors, it means all of us can defeat Tinubu before 2pm in the January elections.”
