Desola Afod, the wife of Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo, has written a heartfelt apology to the entire movie industry.

In a lengthy post on her social media page, she apologised to every practitioner in the movie industry for her choice of words, acknowledging that she shouldn’t have generalised and taking full responsibility.

She said she meant to address a particular set of individuals within the industry. Still, unfortunately, the way she expressed herself made it seem as though she was referring to everyone.

Desola made it clear that taking responsibility for her mistake doesn’t mean abandoning her identity, her values, or her right to express herself.

“A HEARTFELT APOLOGY TO THE ENTIRE MOVIE INDUSTRY

To every practitioner in the movie industry, I sincerely and deeply apologise for my choice of words, particularly the statement “Gbogbo ẹyin Oni tiatia.” Looking back, I acknowledge that this generalisation was wrong, and I take full responsibility.

I intended to address a particular set of individuals within the industry, but unfortunately, the way I expressed myself made it seem as though I was referring to everyone. I understand that my words were inappropriate and could have offended many people whom I genuinely respect and hold in high regard. For this, I am truly sorry.

To my fathers, mothers, senior colleagues, and respected elders in the industry, I humbly ask that you find a place in your hearts to forgive me. I spoke in anger, but I understand that anger is never an excuse for disrespect. I should have expressed myself more carefully and responsibly.
To those who misunderstood or misrepresented my statement, I also apologise for the confusion and offence my words may have caused. I acknowledge my mistake, and I am willing to learn from this experience. I promise to be more mindful of my words and actions going forward.

However, I also want to make it clear that taking responsibility for my mistake does not mean abandoning my identity, my values, or my right to express myself. I accept my fault, I apologise sincerely, and I am committed to becoming a better version of myself. I only hope that this incident will not be used to define my entire person or overshadow the good intentions I have always carried.

I have nothing but respect for the hardworking men and womën in the movie industry, and I would never intentionally seek to disrespect the people who have contributed so much to the entertainment industry.

Once again, to everyone I have offended, especially my fathers, mothers, and elders, please accept my sincere apology. I am human; I have made a mistake, and I am humble enough to admit it.

I am deeply sorry, and I promise to do better.

With respect and humility.
