Morocco goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou has hailed Super Eagles players for putting in a ‘very strong performance’ against his team during both sides’ AFCON semi-final tie on Wednesday.
Bounou was the man-of-the-match as the 34-year-old made two saves during the penalty shoot-out after the match ended in a goalless draw at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The Al-Hilal shot-stopper saved both Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi’s penalty kicks as the Atlas Lions won 4-2.
Speaking at his post-match interview after the game, Bounou said, “The atmosphere during the match was wonderful.
“I thank all the fans who supported us. The players did what was required in a match that wasn’t easy at all, and the opponent delivered a very strong performance.
I would like to thank the coach, Walid Regragui, who prepared us very well for this semifinal match, and I also thank all my teammates.”
Bounou will now hope to lead Morocco to victory when they face Senegal in the AFCON final this weekend.
