Uganda striker, Uche Ikpeazu has named the country he will support to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, after his team’s 3-1 defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday.

Ikpeazu, whose father is from Nigeria and Mother from Uganda, was unable to save the Cranes as the Super Eagles eliminated them from the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Prior to the game, the 30-year-old had apologized to his father while also insisting that he wanted to lead Uganda to beat Nigeria.

Unfortunately, the St. Johnstone player could not achieve his plans as Uganda was sent packing from the AFCON by Nigeria.

Speaking at his post-match interview after the game, Ikpeazu said he would support Nigeria to win the AFCON title.

“I will be supporting Nigeria to lift the AFCON. Uganda is a great national team — much respect to them,” Ikpeazu said.

“The quality showed, and I think at times some of the goals we conceded are mistakes, but it’s a learning curve.

“We are a very young group; we will learn, and we can do better. I tried my best, and that is the most important thing.”
