The mother of Nigerian singer Asake has shared details about a life-changing decision that influenced his path to success.

During a podcast hosted by Korty EO, she revealed that her son once rejected an opportunity to further his education in the United Kingdom.

The artist, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, also spoke during the interview about going against his father’s wishes to pursue a career in music.

According to his mother, she had already made significant preparations for him to study abroad, including arranging finances and obtaining his international passport. However, things took an unexpected turn.

She recalled that one day, Asake came to her with a clear and determined request, insisting he preferred to continue his education in Nigeria rather than travel overseas.

“I was at my shop when he came in and said, ‘Iya Ahmed, they said I should go to school I want to go to school,’” she recounted.

His insistence marked a major turning point, prompting her to rethink her plans for his future.

The situation later involved popular Yoruba actor Muyideen Oladapo, widely known as Lala, who played a crucial role in persuading her to support her son’s decision.

Lala also helped secure Asake’s admission into Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Although she initially had doubts particularly about his strong personality she eventually agreed after being reassured.

Interestingly, that same determination has always been part of Asake’s character. During the podcast, he explained that his nickname “Giran,” which means “stubborn” in Yoruba, reflects his strong-willed nature.

What once seemed like defiance has now become a defining quality in his journey to fame.

While studying Performing Arts at OAU, Asake developed skills that would later shape his creativity and performance style as a musician.
