Werder Bremen head coach, Horst Steffen, has said that Victor Boniface failed to keep to his instructions during their 3-0 defeat to SC Freiburg on Saturday.

Boniface was playing his first home game at the Weserstadion and it was a night to forget for their fans.

The Super Eagles striker was introduced in the second half with Bremen already trailing 2-0 down.

The Nigeria International could not help his team recover but instead they conceded more as the visitors went home with all 3 points.

Steffen blamed his team for their lack of defensive discipline and singled out Boniface, who, according to him, was just too everywhere.

“I felt he was too ‘everywhere. It’s fine for him to be more central. It wasn’t the way I wanted it,” Steffen was quoted as saying by Transfermarkt.

“It wasn’t just him, but a lot of players weren’t staying in their spaces. We have to be positionally consistent so that we can overload the attack every now and then. That’s an issue I’ll address.”

Boniface, who joined the team in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, has so far played just 45 minutes across two appearances for Bremen.

Manager Steffen said the Nigerian must be patient as the team adapts.
