Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 28-year-old man, Femi Olotu, in the correctional centre over an alleged theft of a Point of Sale terminal and phone accessories.

The defendant was arraigned before the court for alleged shop breaking and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court that “the defendant committed the offence at about 2am on February 2 at Orin-Ekiti at Ido/Osi Local Government Area.

Leramo alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of one Olamide Fadipe and stole POS terminal and phone accessories.

He said,

“While he was coming out of the shop, a vigilante shot at him and he shouted for help. In the process, neighbours called the attention of the police.”

A handbag that contains some tools, knife and three small phones was recovered from the defendant.

Leramo said,

“The offences contravened Sections 421, 322 (a) & (c) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.”

He urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

However, the court did not take the plea of the defendant.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, Ado Ekiti pending issuance of legal advice.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case till May 2 for mention.
