The England FA have made a final decision on the future of head coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup.

The Football Association has moved to secure the future of Thomas Tuchel, confirming the German will remain England head coach until Euro 2028 in a fresh update before the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup.

Tuchel, who replaced Gareth Southgate in October 2024, had originally been contracted to lead the Three Lions only through the 2026 World Cup. The new agreement removes any uncertainty about the managerial position and provides stability heading into the tournament in North America.

Under the former Chelsea boss, England have impressed in qualification, winning all eight of their group matches to book their place at the finals.

Tuchel welcomed the FA’s decision, expressing pride at the opportunity to continue working with the squad.

“I’m very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” the 52-year-old said. “I’ve enjoyed every moment with the players and staff, and I’m looking forward to leading them at the World Cup. We will do everything we can to make the country proud.”

According to the FA, the extension is intended to ensure clarity and allow the team to focus entirely on preparations for 2026 and beyond.

Tuchel had been linked with a possible return to club management, including rumours surrounding Manchester United after the sacking of Ruben Amorim. However, his new deal appears to end speculation about any immediate switch back to domestic football.
