Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, has blamed the club’s new signing, Alejandro Garnacho, for their 2-2 draw with Brentford in the Premier League.

Chelsea thought they had defeated Brentford when Moises Caicedo scored late in the game to make it 2-1 after Cole Palmer had come off the bench to equalise for the Blues, who were 1-0 down.

However, Enzo Maresca’s men were denied the three points when Fabio Carvalho scored the equaliser deep into added time, with Garnacho being called out for failing to mark him.

Garnacho was playing his first game for the west London side, having joined in the summer with Chelsea paying a fee in the region of £40 million.

Garnacho came on in the second half of the game at the Gtech Stadium.

Zola said on Sky Sports, “The mistake is always the same. You start looking at the ball and you don’t see the man. It is the man who scores the goal, not the ball.”

Some fans of Manchester United also hit out at Garnacho, mocking him for being the reason Chelsea could not get the three points.

The Red Devils fans are still irked by the Argentina international’s decision to hold out for a move to Chelsea.

“Garnacho lost his man who scored and cost Chelsea two points in stoppage time, my night is made,” one wrote, with another noting: “Garnacho zero awareness to notice he has someone behind him.”
