Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, has provided the latest update on captain Cesar Azpilicueta after his side’s Premier League 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Recall that Southampton defeated Chelsea, thanks to James Ward-Prowse’s only goal of the match.

During the match, Azpilicueta was caught in the face by Southampton’s Sekou Mara, who had attempted an overhead kick during the encounter at Stamford Bridge.

There was a long stoppage as the Spaniard defender received treatment and left the pitch on a stretcher.

Thankfully, Azpilicueta was able to clap the Chelsea faithful as he departed the pitch.

Providing an update on Azpilicueta, Potter said at his post-match press conference, “He’s in hospital. He is conscious and speaking to his wife. Hopefully, he is in the best place and we’re monitoring.

“He needs to take all the precautions we need to take now.”

He added, “I wish a speedy recovery from Azpi. I spoke to Willy to keep me updated with his state.”
