Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has finally insisted he did not mean to offend caretaker manager, Michael Carrick after the Red Devils were defeated 2-1 by Newcastle United in the Premier League last Wednesday.

Recall that Scholes had taken to his Instagram account to aim a dig at Carrick after his former teammate suffered his first defeat since taking charge of United temporarily.

Despite the setback, Carrick’s side remains in third place in the Premier League, pushing for Champions League qualification for next season.

In response to backlash regarding his comments, Scholes addressed the situation during the GoodBadFootball podcast, emphasizing his respect for Carrick.

“Michael is one of the nicest guys in football, and he’s the last person I would aim to offend,” Scholes stated.

He added, “I reached out to Michael immediately, assuring him that I never intended to upset him.

“I think people have just taken it differently from what was meant. The only thing I was saying was that I don’t think they played that well the last four games, and he is still managing to get results.”

Meanwhile, Scholes was criticized by former teammate Patrice Evra over his comments on Carrick.
