Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has tipped Arsenal to win the Premier League this season.
He said the Gunners would win the league after 22 years simply because of their solid defence this season.
According to Mikel, Mikel Arteta’s side possess the best quality of defenders in the league having conceded just three goals after eight games so far this season.
He insisted that there was no way his former club, Chelsea, could challenge for the title with the current set of players in their back line.
“I’ve mentioned it so many times, we [Chelsea] just don’t have good enough defenders,” Mikel said on Obi One Podcast.
He noted that the defenders at Stamford Bridge, especially the centre-backs, cannot win the team anything.
“We can’t win the Premier League with those centre-backs,” the Blues’ legend added.
According to Mikel, Arsenal have shown how far defenders can go in helping a team win matches.
“Now Arsenal have conceded just three goals in nine games,” the former Nigeria international added.
“We’ve said it so many times that if anyone can win the Premier League this season, it’s got to be Arsenal. They have the best team and the best squad.”
Arsenal are currently four points clear at the top of the table with Bournemouth surprisingly occupying the second spot after Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all suffered defeat over the weekend.
