Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has explained why he didn’t start the club’s summer signing Eberechi Eze against Liverpool.

Arteta watched as Liverpool defeated the Gunners 1-0 at Anfield following a second-half goal from Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Spaniard opted not to start Eze against the hosts and brought the England international in the second half of the encounter.

Eze replaced Gabriel Martinelli in the 70th minutes but failed to save Arteta’s side from defeat.

Asked why he didn’t start Eze against Arne Slot’s side, Arteta said at his post-match interview: “He’s been here 4, 5 days with us.

“He had a very good exposure today. I fully believe in the players who played,” he added.

Eze will now hope to start for Arsenal when they face Nottingham Forest in their next game after the international break.

He recently joined the Premier League North London club from Crystal Palace.
