Nigerian rapper and social commentator Falz has openly criticised the nation’s leadership and religious institutions, highlighting concerns over rising insecurity, weak accountability, and ongoing governance failures.
In a recent statement, Falz expressed his frustration with the frequent violent attacks in Nigeria, noting that such tragedies are often met with official statements but rarely result in arrests or legal action. He questioned the government’s ability to safeguard citizens and deliver justice.
He also criticised religious leaders for prioritising spiritual remedies while allegedly enabling politicians to use places of worship for political campaigning. Falz argued that this practice encourages voters to repeatedly support leaders who have not effectively addressed key national challenges.
Additionally, he voiced concern over lawmakers’ reluctance to amend the Electoral Act to permit real-time transmission of election results, suggesting that this resistance threatens transparency in the electoral process.
Falz called on Nigerians to examine persistent patterns in governance and civic engagement, stressing that meaningful reform will be difficult without accountability and informed participation at the polls.
His words …
“I don’t know what’s wrong with us. I don’t know. And I don’t know when we’re going to wake up.The other day, nearly 200 people were k**lled in Kwara. President just came, release statement, normal statement. Oh, I’m saddened by this. Bro, who has been arrested? Who has been prosecuted for this? Nobody. Nothing. Just carry on. You’re always sending people. What are they doing? Nothing. They’re k**lling scores and scores of people every day. But today, people will go to church. Your religious leader, Daddy GO, Papa, he will tell you to sit down there and pray. Pray that God will come and save you. They’ve started campaigning for the next elections. Quote, unquote, “Relax, Tinubu is fixing Nigeria.” Tinubu is fixing Nigeria. He is? Okay. They’ve announced coordinator for the east, for the west, for the south. Now, these guys will still go to these same churches. And your papa, your daddy GO, will allow them on the pulpit to campaign to you. And he will convince you that you should vote for this same e*vil. And you too, in the same cycle, in the same pattern that we’ve used for years, you too, you will follow suit and you will vote. Papa did not tell you that currently the Senate is refusing to adopt the resolution amending the Electoral Act to allow for real-time transmission of election results because they know it will not allow them to be able to rig elections. Papa will not tell you that one. Papa will just tell you to sit down there and wait and pray for spiritual solution. No problem. Let’s be waiting….”
