Ladipo Automobile International Market, Mushin, Lagos State, at the weekend observed its last sanitation day for the year.

During the exercise, which held between 7am and noon, all shops and warehouses were closed to ensure a success of the sanitation.

President of the market association, Jude Nwankwo, said this was the fourth time they would be having the sanitation. It holds quarterly would be observed this year. He praised the traders and shop owners for their compliance to the order on the five-hour closure of the market.

Nwankwo, who led the executives to monitor compliance, said it was a huge success. According to him, the market leaders have zero tolerance for dirt, the reason they introduced the quarterly sanitation in addition to the one enforced by the government every Thursday. He assured the government of their cooperation in cleanliness, noting that cleanliness is next to godliness.

Chairman of the Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation, Nonso Chuifo, who described the day as ‘special’, also expressed satisfaction with the sanitation. He thanked the traders for their obedience. On closure of the market by the government for environmental infractions, Chuifo said there are plans to nip it in the bud in future.

General Secretary, Africanus Ogudoro, said the exercise was continuous in tandem with their objective to make the market clean as encaspsulated in Governor Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Agenda.

Praising Sanwo-Olu for doing a good job, he said the market’s association would continue to partner him for good governance.

He however tasked the governor on the excessive taxes on markets and traders, urging him to reduce it to keep their business afloat.
