According to a citation and other information from Louisville Metropolitan police obtained by local outlet WLKY, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 4:16 p.m. on March 14, 2026 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Police said 57-year-old Patrick Brents shot and k!lled his wife, Carolyn Ross-Brents, following an argument.
Brents claimed that he grabbed the gun while trying to leave his house, and the gun suddenly discharged.
Court documents said that Ross-Brents told Brents that he needed to clean up the house before they went out of town because she wanted to come home to a clean home.
This sparked an argument that eventually led to Brents grabbing a gun from his bedroom, the outlet reported.
A witness in the house allegedly told Brents not to shoot the woman, who was his mother, to which he said, “What are you going to do about it?”
The witness reportedly saw his mother fall to the ground after being shot in the abdomen, after which he ran outside and told his cousin to call 911.
Brents reportedly remained on scene and was charged with assault (domestic violence)
