Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is to return to first team training after being sidelined for eight months.

The former Ajax player has been out since February after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Crystal Palace. Lisandro Martinez is expected to join the first team in training after the international break.

The 27-year-old has been regarded as one of the leaders in Manchester United’s dressing room under ErikTen Hag and Ruben Amorim. Martinez has been training, working with the ball and had an MRI scan last week to check the condition of his knee.

The return of the Argentine is a perfecr time for Ruben Amorim, who has come under increased pressure in recent weeks. United have already lost three Premier League games this season, the latest coming at Brentford a couple of weeks ago.

The latest victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford will serve as a huge boost for Amorim, who’s side face a difficult trip to Liverpool after the international break. Following the victory over Sunderland, Amorim has called for his players to build on the three points.

The Portuguese is indeed yet to record back-to-back league victories since taking the job last November. However United supporters will hope that the team can record back to back victories when they face the Premier League Champions at Anfield.
