AC Milan are reportedly exploring a sensational move to bring Thiago Silva back to San Siro, with La Repubblica claiming the club is actively considering the 41-year-old defender as a January addition.
The Rossoneri are prioritising experience in the upcoming transfer window as they look to reinforce a defensive unit currently built around Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlović, Fikayo Tomori, Koni De Winter and youngster Jan-Carlo Odogu, who has logged just 11 minutes of action this season.
Search for defensive depth intensifies
Milan tried and failed to land Manuel Akanji from Manchester City in the summer before his surprise move to Inter, and also explored a deal for Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.
With Odogu likely to be loaned out in January, the hunt for a seasoned fifth centre-back has resumed.
Thiago Silva emerges as a concrete option
According to La Repubblica, via CalcioMercato, the idea of bringing back Thiago Silva, 13 years after his last appearance for the club, is gaining internal support.
The Brazilian veteran, now at Fluminense, is seen as a leadership figure who could provide immediate stability and elevate the defensive line.
He also maintains a strong relationship with coach Massimiliano Allegri, a factor working in his favour.
Contract situation and recent form
Thiago Silva remains under contract with Fluminense until June 2026 and has been a regular this year, making 41 appearances across competitions and scoring three goals.
He also played a crucial role in the club’s impressive Club World Cup campaign, featuring in victories over Inter and Al-Hilal before their semi-final loss to Chelsea.
