Senator Ned Nwoko has responded to a trending video of himself with a young woman, which many social media users wrongly circulated as evidence of him taking a “new wife” amid ongoing marital conversations involving Regina Daniels.
In an official clarification, the Delta North senator described the claims as completely untrue and the product of mischief makers seeking attention online.
According to Nwoko, the lady in the video was part of a delegation from the Peace Ambassadors Initiative led by Ambassador Dr. Adejo Sule, who had visited him for a courtesy engagement. He explained that taking photos during such visits is a normal protocol, especially during public interactions.
He criticized those twisting the encounter into a romantic narrative, stating that there was no personal or private relationship between him and the woman.
“It is mischievous and malicious for anyone to exploit such gestures to fabricate false narratives. Let me state clearly that I do not have any form of personal or private connection with her,” he said.
Nwoko also cautioned blogs and individuals spreading the false claims to stop, warning that the Cybercrime Act (2015) provides legal grounds for prosecution over defamation and misinformation.
The situation has sparked various reactions online, with some Nigerians humorously noting that “standing next to Ned in a photo is enough to start marriage rumors.”
Ultimately, Nwoko’s statement serves as a reminder of how easily social media can twist ordinary situations into viral falsehoods, and the importance of verifying information before sharing.
