Here are key details such as where to watch, head-to-head and team news to know ahead of the Nigeria vs Benin Republic World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have resumed training on Sunday evening ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, will determine Nigeria’s fate in Group C as they chase a World Cup ticket.

The journey to Uyo was not without drama, as the team experienced a delay in Angola after their aircraft suffered a cracked windscreen midair on Saturday. Despite the setback, the players regrouped and resumed preparations for what is now considered a do-or-die encounter.

Benin Republic currently lead Group C with 17 points, followed closely by South Africa with 15 points and Nigeria with 14 points. The race for the group’s sole qualification spot remains intense after Bafana Bafana’s goalless draw against Zimbabwe and FIFA’s three-point deduction that reshuffled the standings.

The Super Eagles boosted their hopes with a 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday, keeping their qualification dreams alive ahead of this decisive final group clash.

Nigeria vs Benin Team News

Both Nigeria and Benin Republic escaped new injury setbacks from their last matches but will contend with key suspensions ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

For Nigeria, winger Ademola Lookman will miss the encounter after receiving a yellow card against Lesotho. Meanwhile, Benin Republic coach Gernot Rohr will be without Yohan Roche and Sessi D’Almeida, who are both suspended due to yellow card accumulation.

However, Rohr could welcome back Junior Olaitan, the Nigeria-born Goztepe forward, who arrived late to camp due to an injury concern but may be available for selection.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that both teams were expected to arrive in Nigeria from Polokwane and Kigali respectively on Saturday afternoon, though travel delays altered those plans slightly.

Nigeria vs Benin Head-to-Head

Nigeria and Benin Republic share a long-standing rivalry, having met 17 times in all competitions. The Super Eagles have historically dominated this fixture with 13 wins, 3 draws, and just one loss—a defeat that came earlier in the qualifiers when Benin stunned Finidi George’s men 2-1 at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles will now look to avenge that loss and reclaim control of the qualification race in front of their home fans in Uyo.
