Nigerians on social media have once again revived the #JusticeForOchanya campaign, seven years after the tragic death of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje from Benue State, who reportedly endured years of abuse.

Ochanya’s case first captured national attention in October 2018 after reports linked her declining health to prolonged sexual and physical abuse. She was allegedly victimized by a university lecturer, Andrew Ogbuja, and his son, Victor Ogbuja, sparking public outrage and widespread calls for justice.

Despite the nationwide attention, the case has dragged on for years without resolution. This lingering delay has reignited frustration among activists and citizens, pushing them to demand accountability and systemic reform.

Advocacy organizations stress that the renewed movement goes beyond seeking justice for Ochanya it also aims to protect other young girls from similar abuse and to strengthen Nigeria’s child protection framework.

Across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, Nigerians are voicing their anger over the slow pace of justice, while celebrities, influencers, and concerned citizens are using their platforms to call for urgent reforms and legal accountability.

As the #JusticeForOchanya campaign gains momentum once again, supporters remain optimistic that her case will finally be concluded fairly and that it will inspire stronger measures to protect vulnerable children across the country.
