Following the prolonged animosity of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, with the embattled Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo, which resulted in strike, the union has received seven-day ultimatum to resume duty.

JUSUN, led by Gbenga Eludire, had embarked on strike against Justice Adepele-Ojo after Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended her.

Condemnation has trailed the decision of the state government, as the National Judicial Council (NJC) has reinstated her.

A social justice organisation, World Institute for Peace, has threatened legal action against JUSUN.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Lamina Omotoyosi, said the ongoing strike by JUSUN in the state had disrupted the judicial process and denied citizens their right to a fair and timely trial.

He said the strike undermined the principles of justice and hampered the overall functioning of the legal system.

According to him,

“we issue a seven-day ultimatum to the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, to call off their strike and resume duties immediately. We believe dialogue and negotiation should be the primary means of resolving disputes, they encourage both parties involved to engage in constructive discussions to find a mutually beneficial solution.

“If the union fails to comply with this ultimatum, we will have no choice but to pursue legal action against the organisation.”
