Police Arraign Two For Alleged Stealing In Osun

The Police in Osun, on Friday, arraigned Adewumi Boyeji, 28, and Babatunde Owolabi, 28, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo for allegedly stealing motorcycles, valued at N238,000.

The accused were charged with stealing three motorcycles and a vulcanising machine in Ora-Igbomina, Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun.

Police Prosecutor, Insp. Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the accused conspired and committed the act of stealing between March and June at different times and locations in Ora-Igbomina Town.

Jacob said that the accused on March 10, at about 9.00p.m, at Papa Street, Ora-Igbomina, stole a vulcanising machine, belonging to one Olajide Oluwatope and valued at N105 000.

He said that on May 15, at about 4.30 p.m, at Oke-Agbala Street, Ora-Igbomina, they stole a Jincheng motorcycle, property of one Adeleke Owolabi, valued at N63,000.

“The accused on April 10, at about 5.20 a.m, at Oke-Kanga Street in Ora-Igbomina also stole a Jincheng motorcycle belonging to one Samson Opeyemi, valued at N70,000,

“Also, on June 26, at about 5.12a.m, at Oke-Afin Street, Ora-Igbomina, they made away with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle of Ajon Tersee, valued at N200,000,” he said.

Jacob said the offence contravened Sections 516, 383 and 390(10A) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty when their charges were read to them.

Their Counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, applied orally for their bail in the most liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties in like sum.

Ayilara further said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, provide evidence of tax payments and submit two passport-size photographs to the court.

He adjourned the case to July 10 for hearing.
