Popular Nigerian pastor and relationship coach, Kingsley Okonkwo, has stated that the Bible does not clearly prohibit Christians from getting tattoos.

His comments follow a viral video showing him having a tattoo done on his hand, which sparked widespread reactions online.

In a recent interview, Pastor Okonkwo explained that opposition to tattoos among Christians is often rooted in personal beliefs, church traditions, or individual interpretations, rather than direct biblical commands.

He warned against forcing personal or denominational views on others under the banner of spirituality, stressing that such actions can be misleading.

According to him, believers should rely on their personal relationship with Christ and their understanding of Scripture, instead of yielding to public opinion or religious pressure.

The clergyman also challenged those criticizing tattoos to present clear biblical references and scientific proof that tattoos are sinful or spiritually damaging.

He added that while tattoos are frequently condemned, many critics struggle to clearly explain why, noting that loud religious arguments without proper understanding do not reflect sound Christian doctrine.

He said in part …

“There’s no scripture that says a child of God cannot have tattoo. So people are doing personal preference of what the holy spirit told them or what their church policy is and he they want to impose it on other people and this isn’t how these things work. So everybody need to know Christ to walk the word of God. Somebody needs to sit me down and spell it out that tattoos are bad because if someone draws an ink on their body, their brain goes back or that their attitude change. And they must give me scriptural and scientific proof to back this up. But nobody, everybody is just shouting. But nobody can tell me why tattoos are bad…”
