A Utah mother has raised privacy concerns after Meta AI reportedly surfaced personal information about her two young daughters and attempted to determine where her family lives.
Kalie Robins said the incident began after she posted a video of herself singing in a car with one of her daughters. After the video was cross-posted to Facebook, Meta AI suggested the question: “Who’s the child passenger?”
Curious about the prompt, Robins clicked it and said the AI began providing information about both of her daughters, including their names, birth details, photos and videos gathered from old posts shared by her and family members.
She also claimed the AI surfaced a photo she had deleted years ago, although there is no independent evidence showing where that particular image came from.
Robins said Meta AI later suggested she ask, “Where does Kalie Robins live?” and displayed a message saying it was “Pinpointing Kalie Robins’ location.”
The mother said the experience left her distressed and prompted her to reconsider sharing identifiable photos and videos of her children online.
Meta acknowledged that the AI had “missed the mark,” saying it should never have suggested questions about the minor and that the issue had been fixed. The company said the AI’s responses are based on information the user already has access to, including public information and accessible content.
