Social media commentator and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has continued his public criticism of Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, accusing the singer of repeatedly diminishing the legacy of music legends and senior figures within the Nigerian music industry.

In a recent outburst shared online, VeryDarkMan argued that Wizkid has not made sufficient contributions to society to justify placing himself on the same level as iconic figures such as late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He described Wizkid’s recent comments comparing himself to Fela as poorly timed and insensitive, claiming they failed to reflect the mood of the public.

According to VeryDarkMan, Wizkid’s remarks allegedly emboldened some fans to disrespect Fela’s legacy, which he described as deeply troubling given Fela’s cultural and societal impact beyond music.

The influencer further alleged that Wizkid has a recurring pattern of downplaying the achievements of industry pioneers. To support his claims, he referenced a past online incident involving Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy. VeryDarkMan claimed that Wizkid subtly dismissed Don Jazzy by reposting comments that reduced the renowned music executive to merely an “influencer.”

He insisted that these actions were not isolated but reflective of a broader attitude, urging Wizkid to show greater respect to those who laid the foundation for the industry.

In his words, VeryDarkMan said Wizkid does not surpass Fela in terms of societal contribution and accused the singer of deliberately “testing the waters” before making comments that could provoke backlash and fuel disrespect toward music legends.

“Wizkid is not even greater than me talk less of Fela. He’s not. Contribution to the society? Get out, he’s not. A lot of them can’t even lace my boots. He started a pattern, and after testing the waters he decided to try again. That is why he decided to do this one that he is doing to Fela. The sad part is that Wizkid did not read the room before he decided to do this thing to Fela by instigating his followers to insult Fela Kuti’s name.

What is this pattern? Wizkid likes to downplay the legacy of the people before him. I’ll give you an example: Don Jazzy. Wizkid say e no fit talk to person wey dey signed to an influencer. Then another person now ask, shay na Don Jazzy you dey talk to? And Wizkid reposted it. Then another person said Don Jazzy na influencer na, and Wizkid reposted it.”

Wizkid isn’t even greater than me, not to talk of Fela. What impact has he made on society? Until you bring something to the society, get out! 😭
