Nigerian captain, William Troost-Ekong has said that the Super Eagles are only focusing on winning the game against Rwanda on Saturday.
He said it was not yet the time to start thinking about what happens with the other teams.
The Bafana Bafana could face a heavy sanction which could come in the form of points deduction from FIFA over the use of Teboho Mokoena who was not registered for their game against Lesotho back in March
South Africa beat Lesotho 3-0 in the reversed feature of that game on Friday and Ekong was asked during the prematch press conference whether the Super Eagles are still confident of topping Group C.
Fifa is yet to rule on South Africa’s use of Mokoena.
“I don’t think we want to look at what other teams are doing. I think our focus remains on playing our game,” Troost-Ekong told reporters.
“There’s still some question marks that you guys have all discussed about Bafana Bafana and where they will finish and some of their points, but that’s not something I want to think about.
“I am not even thinking about any other team but Rwanda for tomorrow, so we want to focus on what we can control and everything else is not something that’s going to distract us now,” he added.
NEWSUNPLUG reports that in 2017, the world football governing body deducted three points from Nigeria during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after fielding Abdullahi Shehu.
Shehu was suspended and should not have played Nigeria’s 1–1 draw against Algeria.
However, the Super Eagles still made it to the World Cup having already secured top spot in their group.
