Former Chelsea star, Eden Hazard, has named the most underrated midfielder he played with during his active days.
Hazard played with some of the top players in the world throughout his amazing career at Chelsea, Real Madrid and the Belgium national team.
Among his international teammates, one stood out for him as the most underrated player.
At 35 years old, Hazard has retired since 2023 after he left the Spanish giants.
It was a letdown for Madrid after the club made an agreement with Chelsea, which could have been worth up to £150 million if all the extra conditions were met.
The Belgian player only played 76 matches for Real Madrid, scoring seven goals, but he won the Champions League and La Liga twice.
In Spain, he played with players like Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, and Sergio Ramos. At Chelsea, he played alongside Frank Lampard, John Terry, Cesc Fabregas, Ashley Cole, and many other top players.
He was also part of the great group of Belgian players that included Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany, and Romelu Lukaku.
Hazard feels that everyone gets the credit they deserve, although there is another international teammate who does not.
Mousa Dembele, who played for Tottenham and Fulham, had many fans, but people did not think he was among the best players.
Hazard thinks he was just as good as the best midfielders he had during his best years.
Hazard said to The Guardian, “I have always believed that Mousa Dembélé was one of the best midfielders from that era. People didn’t talk about him a lot because he didn’t score many goals, but the fans in the Premier League know he was one of the best players.”
Another person who worked with Dembele, former Fulham manager Martin Jol made a big statement about the Belgian.
Jol said after Dembele left the Cottagers for Spurs, “We’ve had a few players in the last few years who are really much better than the rest.
“Dembele is likely the best player I’ve ever seen when it comes to handling the ball, and we lost him.”
