American rapper 50 Cent has described marriage as a “bad contract” when it fails to serve its purpose, while reflecting on the difficulties that can come with divorce, child support and prolonged disputes between former couples.
Speaking on The Raw Life Review Show, the rapper said marriage requires significant investment in time and energy, but can become complicated when the relationship breaks down.
50 Cent discussed the frequent disagreements that can arise between separated couples, particularly when children and financial obligations are involved.
“I have been in child support cases calling multiple times,” he said, while recalling the frustration that can follow the end of a relationship.
The rapper questioned what becomes of the friendship and connection that once existed between two people who considered each other significant enough to build a family together.
“The person you thought was significant enough to make you significant to other, that’s the only purpose of marriage. Outside of that is a bad contract,” he said.
50 Cent also suggested that marriage can require people to continually renegotiate their expectations and agreements when circumstances change.
According to him, the process can become exhausting as former partners repeatedly demand more from each other.
He joked about the recurring question during such disputes: “What more do you want from me?”
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing with his assessment of marriage while others focused on the rapper’s personal history and views on relationships.
