FG Celebrates Rema’s ‘Best Afrobeats’ Award

The Federal Government has congratulated famed singer Rema for his big win at the just-concluding MTV Video Music Awards, VMAs.

The singing sensation on Tuesday won the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category at the 2023 MTV award ceremony in New Jersey, USA.

He secured the award with the remix of his 2022 collaborative smash track “Calm Down” which featured America’s Selena Gomez.

Felicitating with Rema, the presidency in a post via its official X handle lauded the songster’s musical journey and how he continues to represent the country on the global stage.

He was also commended for his acceptance speech which was characterised as amazing.

“Congratulations to Nigeria’s very own – Rema @heisrema, on winning the ‘Best Afrobeats’ at the VMAs for his song ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez. Such an amazing acceptance speech!

“Congratulations to Nigeria’s very own – Rema, on winning the ‘Best Afrobeats’ at the VMAs.

“Winning ‘Best Afrobeats’ at the VMAs is just a milestone in Rema’s remarkable career. He continues to represent the country on the global stage, breaking barriers and inspiring countless others.

“His talent knows no bounds, and his music resonates with audiences worldwide.

“From Benin City to the VMA stage, Rema’s journey continues to be a testament to dedication, passion, and the true Nigerian spirit,” the presidency wrote.

“Afrobeats is #MadeInNigeria

“FACT: Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ is the first song from an African artist to cross over a billion streams on Spotify,” the presidency wrote.
