The Imo State Police Command says it is actively working to rescue Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly who represented the Okigwe State Constituency, following a viral video showing him in captivity.

In the viral video , Ogbu could be heard appealing for help while being held by his abductors.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 14, the state police public relations officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said Ogbu was abducted on September 7, 2025, in the Onuimo area by suspected members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Tactical Units, working in collaboration with other security agencies, to track down the suspects and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted lawmaker. A thorough investigation is already underway.

He added that the Command is urging members of the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to provide any useful information that could aid the rescue operation. Relevant information can be reported to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
