Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has triggered widespread reactions after commenting on how men have shaped the mindset and expectations of many women in society.
Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he explained that the way some men treat women particularly those considered attractive has gradually influenced how women perceive their value and what they believe they are entitled to.
According to him, cultural phrases and attitudes such as “fine girl no suppose dey trek” have contributed to the belief among some women that beauty automatically comes with privileges.
“We men are guilty of what we’ve turned our women into. We’ve conditioned them to believe that once they are beautiful, they can get anything,” he said, adding that such perceptions did not develop overnight but were reinforced through repeated behavior over time.
Okey Bakassi also stressed that approaching a woman should not be seen as something that automatically elevates her status. He added that while some women may act based on the idea of “fine girl privilege,” such attitudes are largely shaped by societal influence rather than coming from nowhere.
