Isaac Fayose has questioned the Nigerian government’s stance on electoral reforms, expressing concern over attempts to roll back key components of the voting process despite heavy financial investments.

Speaking on the issue, Fayose recalled that billions of naira were spent on electoral reforms in 2019. He added that in 2023, further reforms were introduced, including the adoption of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and plans for electronic voting, following recommendations by former President Goodluck Jonathan. According to him, an additional ₦359 billiion

Fayose wondered why authorities would want to discard reforms that have already cost the country close to a trillion naira. He accused decision-makers of deliberately undermining the system and argued that the debate around electronic voting was being manipulated through semantics.

“2019, they spent billions on electoral reform. 2023, Jonathan said let’s go BVAS, let’s have electronic voting and they spent ₦359 billion again. Why do they want to throw away a reform they spent almost a trillion for? We all know what they’re doing. They said it’s just transmission and transfer, we are here to correct the English,” Fayose said.
